hot melt adhesion
The adhesion of hot melt adhesives is created by the fast cool down of a liquid state thermoplastic compound, to solid state. While being hot liquid (between approximateley 100 and 160 degrees Celcius). The liquid adhesives adheres to the substrates. While pressing substrates together, the liquid is being pressed into to porous substrates, and becomes a thin layer, that will cool down quickly (0,1 to 10 seconds).
This process enables fast production and hot melts can easily be built in in automatic processes. Some of applications are:
- Paper products manufacturing adhesives, like books, displays and packaging
- cardboard, box and tray manufacturing
- paper boxes, box manufacturing,
- food packaging (primary packaging, secondery packaging, labelling adhesives.
- wood lamination, edgebanding,
- product assembly (white goods, filters, automotive parts),
- books (spine glue, side glues)
- printing materials
- tile spacers
- foil adhesives
- Self adhesive label manufactuting (Label stock).
We can distinquish several types of hot melt
- Thermoplastic hot melts
- non sticky, based on EVA, PE, Polyolefine, metallocene, Polyester
- sticky, based on rubbers and resins. (PSA, pressure sensitive adhesives)
- Reactive hot melts
- PUR Hot melt, POR
