Pressure sensitive adhesives
Pressure sensitive adhesives are mostly based on thermoplastic rubbers. PSA adhesives remain sticky even after it has cooled down. It has been designed to create a bond in standard, hot or cold (deep freeze) circumstances. Mostly these hotmelts are applied on carriers, such as foils or paper to create a self adhesive tape or self adhesive label. Schmelzhaftklebstoffe are also known as "PSA - Pressure sensitive adhesives". There are strong bonding alternatives (eg. for security sealing), but also removable, recloseable formulations.
Some important standard measurements are made with Peel Adhesion test, Shear Adhesion tests, Temperature fail test (heat resistancy) Rolling ball tests and loop tack tests and the Tg temperature.
The values of these measurements lead to an indication for the application area of the finished tape or label, e.g. heat resistancy, high tack for fast running labelling machines, specialty materials such as OPP, heat resistancy and/or deep freeze (cold) resistancy of the final bond.
